The Greater Santa Barbara Area Clergy Association presents its annual Community Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25 at the historic First United Methodist Church, 305 E. Anapamu St. in downtown Santa Barbara.
The GSBACA includes clergy and religious leaders from more than 100 local faith communities who come together for an evening of meditation, music and message to celebrate and reflect upon unity, peace, hope, and blessings from our diverse religious traditions.
This year’s participants will include representatives of the Chumash, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Unitarian, Roman Catholic, Catholic Church of the Beatitudes, and Protestant traditions. Imam Wa’el Hegazy of the Islamic Society of SB, Rabbi Maddy Anderson of B’nai B’rith, and Reverend Gerardo “Jerry” Manchaca of the New Beginning Community Church, will offer reflections on the idea that every person has intrinsic value and worth simply by being human.
Singers from all local choirs and houses of worship are invited to the First United Methodist Church (at Garden St and Anapamu St) for the Interfaith Choir 6:00 pm rehearsal followed by the 7:00 – 8:00 pm service. RSVP to Cantor Mark Childs (cantor@cbbsb.org) so music can be sent to you in advance and enough copies can be made available at the church.
Casa de la Raza will be the recipient of this year’s free-will offering proceeds and guests are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food and pantry items to benefit those served by Casa de la Raza.
Refreshments will be served in the church social hall immediately following the service.
There is free parking in the church lot, enter from Garden Street. For more, call 805-963-3579, email fumcsb.office@gmail.com, or visit www.fumcsb.org or https://www.facebook.com/FirstUMCSantaBarbara.
