OCTOBER PROGRAM

Exploration of the Concept of Justice
There are many formulations of the concept of justice. We will explore some of them.  For example: “Justice, according to Plato, is about balance and harmony. It represents the right relationship between conflicting aspects within an individual or a community.”

October 13, 2026
The U.S. Supreme Court
Garrett Riegg and Judy Saltzman will give a presentation on the historical predecessors of the Court, and the seminal cases that have shaped it.  “In one stroke, Chief Justice Marshall managed to establish the power of the Court as the ultimate arbiter of the U.S. Constitution to chastise the Jefferson administration for its failure to obey the law, and to avoid having the Court’s authority challenged by the administration.”

October 20, 2026
The Commons & Relational Law
We will discuss selections of Jeremy Lent’s book Eco Civilization.  “It is a position not to be controverted that the earth, in its natural uncultivated state was, and ever would have continued to be, the common property of the human race.”

October 27, 2026
Nomad Century – Climate Migration
“A great upheaval is coming. It will change us, and our planet.” – Gaia Vince
