Whether you’re a lifelong Buddhist, want to reconnect with your Buddhist roots, or are curious about Buddhism come join the Buddhist Church of Santa Barbara (BCSB)’s monthly Lunch and Learn Series: Buddhism and Pop Culture.
Join us at our picturesque temple on Santa Barbara’s Eastside on Saturday December 13th at 10 am for a Buddhist service that includes moments to quiet the mind, chanting of traditional texts called sutras, and hearing a dharma message from our priest.
At 11am, in a more informal setting we’ll explore the Buddhist lessons in improvisational comedy. From revealing the truths of interdependence and the preciousness of living in the spirit of ichigo-ichie (a Japanese phrase meaning “one moment, one meeting”), improv comedy shows us how dropping our ego can lead us to unexpected moments of joy. Participants will get to experience gentle improv exercises that promote deep listening and mindfulness of the moment.
A complimentary lunch with other refreshments will be served and we are happy to discuss any other questions about Buddhism you might have.
BCSB is part of the 800-year-old Jodo Shinshu tradition of Japanese Pure Land Buddhism and has been rooted in Santa Barbara since 1913.
