Mitchell Robles at Indah Gallery

Indah Gallery is pleased to present: Mitchell Robles – Many Roads. Contemporary Chumash Art.

Mitchell Robles’ primitive, vibrant images are both a revelation and a celebration of his Chumash ancestry. “My paintings are my personal quest for my cultural and spiritual identity,” says this eleventh generation native of Santa Barbara, California.

Robles’ love of history and of the vast solitude of the desert has led him to explore and photograph archeological ruins and sacred sites in California and throughout the Western United States. These excursions have deepened Robles’ understanding of his indigenous lineage and immersed him in the fierce beauty of nature, thus adding thematic elements of mysticism and strength witnessed throughout his work.

Show dates: April 17 – May 10 • Opening Reception: April 18, from 5-7pm at Indah Gallery.

Indah Gallery (indah meaning “beautiful” in Indonesian) is an exhibition space for contemporary art, with a focus on artists local to the Santa Ynez Valley and Santa Barbara County. Indah Gallery is situated within the Roblar Winery vineyard in a converted hay barn. This idyllic setting provides a unique venue for experiencing art—where the birds sing, glorious California sunshine spills in, grape leaves rustle in the wind, and an occasional rooster caw punctuates the soundscape.

Indah Gallery is open Fridays, Saturdays & Sunday from 12-5p or by appointment.
