S.B. Museum of Natural History

Looking for an exclusive escape from the dog days of summer? The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History is hosting its Members for a unique happy hour under the oaks in the Museum Backyard. This Members-only event features a poetry reading from Santa Barbara’s very own Poet Laureate George Yatchisin.

George, a local poet, was recently honored as Santa Barbara’s eleventh poet laureate. His poetry, deeply rooted in our community, has appeared widely in journals and anthologies.

As a three-decade resident of Santa Barbara, George retired from his position as director of communications for UCSB’s Gevirtz Graduate School of Education in 2023. His dedication to both poetry and education, evident in his three decades of service, is truly inspiring and a testament to his passion for his craft.

Three other S.B. Poet Laureates will also be reading on this evening. Paul Willis (Poet Laureate 4), Chryss Yost (Poet Laureate 5), and Enid Osborn (Poet Laureate 7) will each read for 10 minutes in the lead up to George’s reading.

Ages 21+ only; no children will be admitted. Adult beverages will be available for purchase.

Attending this event is free, but Members must reserve a spot by registering online, or by emailing jleathers@sbnature2.org or calling 805-682-4711 ext. 114. Members may bring a guest for $10.
