The Mysteries of Creativity: On the Writing of “Our Beautiful Boys”
Friday, November 7th, 2025 @ 6:30PM
Captain Fatty’s Brewing
Join Professor, Department Chair, & author Sameer Pandya as he discusses the several different influences–from E.M. Forster’s novel “A Passage to India” to American football and an old family photograph–that shaped the writing of his new novel. He will then read from the novel before turning to a Q&A with the audience.
Sameer Pandya is the author of the novels “Our Beautiful Boys” (2025) and “Members Only” (2020), a finalist for the California Book Award and an NPR “Book We Love” of 2020, and the short story collection “The Blind Writer” (2015), longlisted for the PEN/Open Book Award. His cultural criticism has appeared in a range of publications, including the Los Angeles Review of Books, the Atlantic, Sports Illustrated, and others. He is an associate professor and chair of the Department of Asian American Studies at UC Santa Barbara.
