The artists and activist communities of Santa Barbara were out in force last weekend to participate in and support the two-day exhibit Creative Resistance: The Artist’s Perspective on Our Changing World on view at Santa Barbara Community Arts Workshop (SBCAW).

In addition to more than 40 original works of art reflecting on social, political, and cultural issues through a variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, and installations of all types, the program, put together by organizer Laura Walker Ragan and a tireless team, included speakers from 805 UndocuFund, Planned Parenthood, Santa Barbara City Councilmember Oscar Gutierrez, Santa Barbara Poet Laureate George Yatchisin, and Artist/Environmental Activist Peggy Oki, among others.

Thrilled and perhaps a bit blown away by the reception, Ragan said, “A lot of people were excited and happy to have a positive way to express themselves.”

Participating artists included (partial list): Baret Boisson, Ingrid Bostrom, Ginny Brush, Neil Campbell, Diane Daly, Lee Anne Dollison, Adrienne De Guevara, Terry Duffy, Nina Dunbar, Andi Garcia, Andrew Gartner, Inga Guzyte, Sol Hill, Jane Jacobs, Colleen M. Kelly, Rod Lathim, Dan LeVin, Michael Long, Diane Mackenzie, Sharyn Main, Melody Malek, Judy Nilsen, Peggy Oki, Tom Padzerka, Barbara Parmet, Tristan Partridge, Alex Ramirez, Rod Rolle, Bonnie Rubenstein, Helene Schneider, Melissa Sokol, Tama Takahashi, Dug Uyesaka, Sue Van Horsen, Wanda Venturelli, Laura Walker Ragan, Daniel York, and Seyburn Zorthian.
