Dallas, Tx.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing away of our brother, Jose “Luis” Vargas Saldana, on Friday, October 24, 2025, in Dallas Tx. He was 69 years old.

Luis was born on March 18, 1956, in Mexico City, to Jesus Saldana and Teresa Vargas.

They moved to Santa Barbara when he was 14 years old where he attended the local schools and discovered his passion for music. He learned to play guitar and several other instruments along with his cousins and friends, and became a talented musician. He was a member of a local band called “La Historia” which performed at various local venues. Whether strumming his guitar at family gatherings or sharing songs with loved ones, Luis used his music to connect with others and spread joy.

He was also a gifted painter. whose colorful murals and window art brightened the communities of Santa Barbara and Dallas during the 90s, and some of his art is still visible decorating local businesses today.

Luis lived his life freely and without regret – adventurous and spirited from a young age. At 11 years old he once skipped school with a friend and hopped on a train for a joy ride that took him across two states. He returned a week later – tired and hungry, but with no remorse. He was admired bye his family and friends for his friendly personality, musical talent, and determination to live his life on his own terms.

He is survived by his loving mom, Teresa, his five children whom he loved deeply – Ruby, Paul, Isaac, Adriana, and Marina – as well as his six siblings; Robert, Yolanda, Olivia, Jesus, Norma, and Javier, who hold fond memories of their years growing up.

Interment services will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025 at the Goleta Cemetery at 11:00 am. followed by a Celebration of Life at Tucker’s Grove Park, Area 4.
