City of Death

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital

On Saturday November 29th, surrounded by family, Dana peacefully passed away to pneumonia.

Hap was born in Santa Barbara and lived his entire life in the area. He attended the Monroe school and San Marcos high school. He grew up in the Mesa, and could often be found around the surfing and waterfront communities.

Dana had a long and fruitful career in the printing industry. He worked at every level of printing. From type-setting and photo lithography to printing press and bindery equipment operator. Over the years he worked for several local printing businesses. One of them was Kimberly Press, publisher of many local historical and nature books. There, Hap helped create popular local books like “Santa Barbara Day Hikes” and “Stagecoach Days in Santa Barbara” as well as many others.

After retirement, Hap indulged in his passion for chasing solar eclipses. Going to far away places like Hawaii and Chile to see day turn into night. Through it all, he was a passionate Kansas City Chiefs fan and could often be heard cheering for them at some of his favorite establishments, like Pascual’s and Jimbo’s.

Dana was a free spirit and a kind soul. Friendly and generous to strangers. Loving and kind to his family. He is survived by a sister and a brother as well as nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of life gathering held in his honor on Saturday December 20th from 11am to 1pm at Shoreline Park.
