Virginia B Vanocur

Virginia Backus Vanocur died peacefully at Serenity House in Santa Barbara, Ca on December 13th, 2025. Born in Santa Barbara, Ca to Standish Backus, Jr and Barbara Babcock Backus, she attended the Ethel Walker School and Vassar College. In 1960, she married James T. Wood, III of Pasadena, Ca and had one daughter, Daphne W. Hicks. After divorcing, in 1975 she married Sander Vanocur of Washington DC and lived in Washington, DC and Santa Barbara, Ca. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her grandchildren, Standish H. Ryan, Henry V. Hicks and her stepson, Christopher Vanocur.

She was known for her love of all animals and her exquisite eye for color, and design in all things, her style, taste, intelligence and elegance. Her family and friends will remember her humor, sharp wit, beauty, joie de vivre and huge generosity. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the care of animals or cancer research.
