Kathleen Hynes Dewey

Kathleen Hynes Dewey, 86, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026 in Santa Barbara, California with family and church members at her side. Kathleen was born Kathleen Hynes to Robert Daniel Hynes and Alice Hynes in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 22, 1939.

Kathleen graduated from Ursuline Academy High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. She married John Lynn Dewey with whom she had two children, Michael Robert and Daniel John. They were married for 26 years. Kathleen (Kitty) enjoyed participating in her children’s early education. She loved to organize family camping trips to the redwoods and by the sea throughout CA. Kathleen graduated with a Master’s degree from Notre Dame University after which she taught English at Santa Barbara City College. She was a founding member of the Catholic Church of the Beatitudes in Santa Barbara where she served as an instructor for lectern speakers.

Kathleen is survived by her former husband John and her two children, Michael (Alice) and Daniel. Kathleen’s cremains were interred next to those of her Mother and Father in the Hynes/Hollis Family Plot in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hamilton, Ohio on February 26, 2026.
