In the Belgium feature MISS MOUCHE, a camera is used not as a device to record fond memories, but as a sort of a torture device to shed light on secrets that underscore every family. Nina (Mona Jabe) uses her camera phone to unceremoniously record her family that, unbeknownst to her, is living well above their means. After an automobile accident, Nina’s mother slips into a coma, giving her father the idea to try and revive her by utilizing the videos captured on the camera phone. However, the various “shorts” Nina filmed are unlike what her father expected, as there is instead evidence of the secrets that the family wanted to keep under wraps. Nina’s shorts are unclear when seen separately, but when pieced together, they begin to make sense, as they reveal the illegal schemes of her parents and forces the family to reevaluate the lives they once knew.
