Mrs. Matsuye Ogi - Beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2012 with her family by her side.
Born Matsuye Nishida on December 9, 1913, in Walnut Grove, CA; she evacuated to Grand Junction/Montrose, CO. during WWII. After the war she performed domestic work and later was employed by the Oakland Public Schools as a cafeteria staff member at Crocker Highlands Elementary and Montera Junior High School in Oakland, CA. Matsuye married Hitoshi Ben Ogi in 1956. They spent their entire time together in Oakland, CA .
Matsuye participated in supporting events sponsored by the Buddhist Temple of Alameda and is fondly remembered for her many acts of kindness and her famous homemade potato salad. For the past 21 years, she has lived in Santa Barbara, CA. We have all been so blessed with Matsuye's very positive influence, boundless energy and uplifting spirit. She enjoyed all parts of her life with great pride, enthusiasm, JOY, fun, love, and compassion. Such an amazing inspiration and champion of everything that is right and good. Her incandescent smile was never brighter than When she was helping, hugging, or encouraging others and will be sorely missed.
Matsuye was predeceased by her husband, Hitoshi Ben Ogi; parents, Kumahei and Namio Nishida; and Sister, Hanako Ferguson. She is survived by her son, Alan (Charlene) Ogi, granddaughter Alyssa Ogi; Sister, Takeyo Mori; Sister-in-law, Mary Matsuoka; nieces, nephews, grand nieces & nephews, and great-grand nieces & nephews.
In accordance with Matsuye's Wishes, there will be no funeral services. Her ashes will be interred with her husband at the Chapel Of the Chimes, Piedmont, CA.. Her family would like to express their gratitude to her primary physician, Dr. Glenn Hollingshead. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to Santa Barbara's Sansum Clinic, the American Cancer Society, and/or the Buddhist Temple of Alameda are suggested.
