Pasqual's Closing? Foley wines picked, and new sparkling vintage, Goat Bubbles

Thu Feb 23, 2006 | 10:07am

Rumors are flying around Pascual’s. Word has it that owner
Pascual Gamboa has sold to his partner, Lucky Comin, who plans to
remodel and change the name and concept. There’s still a glimmer of
hope for those who rely upon the margaritas: Signs in the windows
read “open until further notice.” 30 E. Victoria St., 965-4461.

Four cheers for the local wines picked for the Wine Enthusiast’s
Top 100: Foley Rancho Santa Rosa Chardonnay; Laetitia Chardonnay;
Sanford La Rinconada Pinot Noir; and Taz Goat Rock Syrah.

Speaking of goats … this year Norm Yost, owner of Flying Goat
Cellars, joins the small club of local producers dabbling in
sparkling wine. His “Goat Bubbles” is a sparkling pinot noir — no
surprise, given his pinot-phile tendencies — and produced in the
time-consuming (but worth it) methode Champenoise.
