The Debut of UCSB Grad Per Anderson’s First Feature

UCSB grad Per
Anderson is debuting his first feature film, Stanley Cuba, January 27,
at 9 p.m. at Victoria Theater as part of the fest. 
feature, which stars emerging comedy star Mike Birbiglia, who has appeared on
Letterman, Leno, and Comedy Central, as Stanley, a photographer
whose life parallels legendary director Stanley
Kubrick.
The film follows Stanley through a particularly rough week as he
searches for his lost dog, Spartacus, recovers from a breakup, runs
from intellectual property lawyers, and tries to find salvation
through his art by winning a photography competition. A clever
parody of Kubrick’s life and work, his fans will notice the
imitation of the topics, sets, styles, and techniques used by
Anderson from Kubrick cult classics such as A Clockwork
Orange, Eyes Wide Shut, and
The
Shining.
Not only a parody of Kubrick’s biography and films, the feature
scandalizes intellectual property, the seriousness of high art, and
parody itself, as Birbiglia’s Stanley explores the post-modern
passions and obsessions of an artist living through the crisis in
the information age.
