Ventura Considers Artificial Surf Reef

Santa Barbara surfers mourning the loss of the Mussel Shoals surf reef just south of Carpinteria in 1998 will surely be keeping an eye on Ventura County, which has pledged to build an artificial reef. The $4-million project, which could also stop beach erosion in the area, would consist of synthetic tubes positioned to strike water currents so as to create surf-worthy waves.
