Santa Barbara County’s chief probation officer, R. Scott DeuPree, left office on 4/20 after officially retiring at the end of March. The 26-year department veteran stayed on as a courtesy to the Superior Court judges, who still have not found a replacement. Deputy Chief Martin Conoley is temporarily managing the department’s $41-million budget and 380 employees, who supervise 6,000 adults and 1,200 juveniles.
