Four Reasons to Check Out Hip-Hop On Friday

The Indy List

Thu May 03, 2007 | 12:00pm

This Friday, May 4, KCSB and La Casa de la Raza are bringing a slew of hip-hop to town, starting at 8:30 p.m. Call 893-2064 for tix. Here’s why your attendance is required:

1) The talent: Conscious, indie rappers performing include the Bay Area’s Zion I and The Grouch from Living Legends, both headliners. In support will be Scarub, also from Legends, as well as Blu and the Bay Area’s Bash Bros.

2) The venue: Years ago, La Casa was the place to be for our city’s youth, and with shows like this, there’s hope it may retake its rightful place atop the all-ages heap.

3) The cause: All proceeds from ticket sales, which range from $12 (general) to $8 (high schoolers), go to KCSB 91.9 FM, the best little nonprofit radio station around.

4) The timing: It’s part of the Alliance for Immigrants’ Rights’ “The Week of the Immigrant,” which also includes a demonstration and workers’ rights classes, as well as other programs.
