Following an April tanker spill in Oakland that melted and collapsed sections of interstates 880 and 580, Assemblymember Pedro Nava – chair of the Transportation Committee – and fellow Democrat Mark DeSaulnier introduced AB 1612, which would require drivers to hold a commercial driver’s license for three years without violations before they would be allowed to transport hazardous materials. The bill is currently in the Senate Transportation Committee.
