UCSB evolutionary biology professor Scott Hodges and UC Davis postdoctoral research fellow Justen Whittall published a study in the 6/7 issue of Nature detailing how flowers may grow and change to match the mouthparts of their pollinators. The study focused on how columbine flowers store nectar to match the length of their main pollinator’s tongue, a phenomenon Charles Darwin had theorized 140 years ago.
