On 7/7, Santa Barbara resident Rendy Lynn Opdycke set a new record for the fastest swim from Santa Cruz Island to Santa Barbara Point. Opdycke made the 28.25 mile trip in 10 hours and 51 minutes, beating former record holder Paul Lewis’s time by more than two hours.
