Planning Commission Approves Mixed-Use Building

The Santa Barbara Planning Commission approved a new three-story industrial-chic mixed use project in the Funk Zone, despite its parking shortfall. The project slated for 116 E. Yanonalit Street will stand three stories and 42 feet tall, replacing a warehouse about one third as tall and spacious. All the commissioners – even Bendy White who voted against it – praised the Steve Yate’s architectural design of the project, which promises to create a lively street presence with shops, galleries, and an atrium. White complained that the six condos – hovering around 2,400 square feet – were just too large. That measurement also includes 700 square feet in work space that’s supposed to be open to the public.
