Pig Hunters Complete Work on Santa Cruz Island

After more than two years of killing wild pigs, a crew of New Zealand-based professional hunters are headed home from Santa Cruz Island. Since April of 2005, ProHunt, Inc. has been working to eradicate the non-native pigs wreaking havoc on the island’s food chain. After some 5,036 feral pigs were eradicated, the National Park Service and the Nature Conservancy declared last week that the ecological restoration project was a success.
