Friday, 8/31 saw the wrap-up of the 10th International Symposium on Antarctic Earth Sciences at UCSB. A panel of scientists summarized their presentations for members of the public. It was announced that in 2009, a sub-glacial lake will be penetrated for the first time, allowing study of a dynamic and previously unstudied process in Antarctica’s glaciers. Members of this symposium are scheduled to meet in Texas to discuss melting of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet.
