Study Concludes Bridge Suicide Barriers Ineffective

Professor Garrett Glasgow of UCSB’s political science department recently completed a study for Caltrans on a possible suicide prevention barrier for Cold Springs Bridge and found that there is no evidence that a fencing barrier would save lives on the bridge. In his report, Glasgow warns that the community must ask if the money it would cost to build a barrier-$605,000-could be better used elsewhere to save more lives.
