State Water Curtailed for Endangered Species

South Coast water officials are less alarmed by the reductions in state water deliveries than water agencies further south, as the South Coast relies far less on water imported through the State Water Project. A judge ordered water-transporting turbines shut down periodically to protect the endangered Delta smelt from being sucked into them. Water managers say the reductions could pose a problem if they last for more than a year.
