What do the Suds City Laundromat in Goleta and the Cate School in Carpinteria have in common? They both took advantage of the soon-to-expire Save Water, Save a Buck Program, which rewards commercial and institutional water customers for retrofitting with more efficient clothes washing machines, toilets, and yes, urinals. A $24,500 rebate is also due to the Casitas Village Homeowners Association, which replaced 70 washers in its shared laundry facilities with more efficient machines. They’ll also save an estimated 583,000 gallons of water per year. Other recent rebates have gone to the Acupuncture Clinic in Santa Barbara and SB Mail Works in Goleta. In addition to rebates, the program provides free irrigation inspection for large landscapes, in which staff from the Cachuma Resource Conservation District checks for efficiency and leaks and makes recommendations. Scheduled to end on December 31, the program is co-funded by, the the Carpinteria Valley Water District, the Santa Barbara County Water Agency, and a grant from the California Department of Water Resources.
