Goleta hopes to be the first city in California to implement a new law designed by Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Sgt. Greg Nordyke. Effective 1/1/08, it allows jurisdictions to reduce the speed limit to 15 miles per hour within 500 feet of most schools instead of the current 25 mph; and to 25 mph in an expanded safe zone of between 500 and 1000 feet.
