Carpinteria Limits Big Box Development

Thu Feb 28, 2008 | 06:00am

Carpinteria City Council members voted this week to limit future business developments to 30,000 square feet in area. The 3-to-1vote came after community members protested a proposal from the Linden Avenue Vons supermarket to overtake the larger Albertson’s and Rite Aid building at Casitas Plaza, forming a 40,000-square-foot super store. The new “big box” ordinance also requires extensive review for any commercial building proposal in excess of 20,000 square feet.
