Those strolling along the path at shoreline park over the past month or so may have noticed that a large chunk of sidewalk is missing from the bluff. The Santa Barbara Department of Parks and Recreation has installed a fence around the hazard, and is investigating causes and mitigation for the lost piece of path. This area, as well as Mac Gillivray Point, will remain fenced off until authorities decide the best way to re-route the paths.

Studies of Shoreline Park by officials have indicated significant erosion since the 1970s-a result of geological adversity and coastal erosion. For now, the landslide remains active and roped off to the public.
