The Santa Barbara Foresters won its second National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series championship last week, with UCSB’s Mike Ford pitching the team to a tidy 2-0 victory over the Seattle Studs in Wichita, Kansas. The Foresters are the first California team to win twice in the NBC’s 74 years of championships. They are also the first team to win two titles since the tournament went exclusively to wooden bats in 2000. (/foresters828)

Barbara Warren, an accomplished 65-year-old triathlete from San Diego, reportedly broke her neck when she crashed during the biking leg of the Santa Barbara Triathlon on 8/23 and is currently being cared for at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital’s intensive care unit. S.B. Triathlon organizers are looking into the incident and asking any witnesses to come forward. (/barbarawarren)
