A 9/3 conference on aging at Fess Parker’s DoubleTree Resort featured the presentation of statistics comparing Santa Barbara seniors to their counterparts statewide. In Santa Barbara, 20 percent live at or below the poverty level, compared to 33 percent statewide. However, half the over-65 population here is overweight or obese, half take medication for depression, and more seniors here reported having multiple falls in 2004 than in the state as a whole.
