Where: 1005 Casitas Pass Road, 566-5929

What: A self-serve frozen yogurt shop where both simplicity and creativity are welcomed.

How Much: 35 cents per ounce

The dish: The salad bar of frozen yogurt shops has opened in Carpinteria. Instead of waiting behind a pokey customer who takes a watchful of minutes to order, skip right up to the machine-lined wall and topping bins to create your own frozen yogurt masterpiece. It may take months to understand the pure science of how to create those icy, thick, and creamy towers and stack them perfectly next to each other, but who needs perfection when it comes to sweets? While other frozen dessert shops may charge per flavor, per fudge drizzle, per sprinkle, here customers can whirl and add to exact specifications at the same price per ounce. Nonfat and sugar-free flavors range from Classic Vanilla and Chocolate Obsession to the more fanciful Root Beer Float, seasonal Peppermint, Tart, and Cookies and Cream. Grab a cup at the front door, mull flavor selections, swirl, twist, make some Oreo cookie-Butterfinger sandwiches, weigh it, pay for it, and lick the drips on the side on the way out.
