Assemblymember Pedro Nava, the California Ocean Protection Council, and members of the Assembly Coastal Caucus on 3/4 announced new protection measures that aim to reduce marine debris. Nava’s legislation proposes a ban on single-use styrofoam packaging. (/nava35)

Beginning 3/1, UCSB police officers are patrolling areas between Coal Oil Point and Ellwood Beach and issue citations to dog owners who allow their pets off-leash. This new ordinance is meant to further protect the endangered snowy plover’s nesting areas from human and dog contact. (/plover35)
