Assemblymember Pedro Nava has spearheaded a coalition of environmental fishing industry groups and legislators that aims to urge U.S. Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar to reinstate the federal moratorium on offshore oil drilling. Salazar was in San Francisco this week to discuss a moratorium, which President Bush had removed prior to leaving office. “We do not want more oil and gas drilling off our coast,” said Nava, who sponsored an Assembly resolution opposing expansion of oil drilling.
