Say Roblar, Say Wat!

Santa Ynez Valley Winery Hosts Saba Tewolde's Ethiopian Feast

Thu Apr 30, 2009 | 12:00am

Wine country cuisine has become a very understandable phrase, but while the Santa Ynez Valley is certainly wine country, Ethiopia generally isn’t considered the same (all apologies to tej, the honey wine). That’s not going to stop Roblar Winery (3010 Roblar Ave., Santa Ynez; 686-2603; roblarwinery.com) from hosting spectacular chef Saba Tewolde as she presents the luscious cuisine of Ethiopia on Saturday, May 9, from 5-8 p.m. If you go, you’ll surely get wat (the style of stew famous in her home country) and injera (the spongy bread it is served on and that is used as an edible eating tool, too). Tewolde will demonstrate, you will learn, you will eat, you will drink Roblar wines (their Semillon would be an intriguing pairing with the deeply spiced cuisine). Then you, and a mere two dozen other folks, will snuggle into the barrel room and enjoy an Ethiopian feast.
