Hillary Hauser, executive director for nonprofit Heal the Ocean, was honored on 6/13 by UCSB’s Environmental Studies department with its 2009 Community Service Award. At the helm of Heal the Ocean since its inception in 1998, Hauser has helped the organization grow into one of Santa Barbara’s most formidable ocean-minded watchdog groups. This year, Heal the Ocean won its longstanding battle to convert the homes along world-famous Rincon Point from a septic to a sewer system.
