Chic Tequila by the Creek

S.B. Museum of Natural History Hosts Fridays@5 Tasting Program

Thu Jul 30, 2009 | 12:00am

The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History (SBMNH) has been busy turning Friday happy hour into a time to imbibe some knowledge along with the harder stuff as part of its Fridays@5 program. This week on July 31, guests can get an agave-fueled jumpstart on Fiesta by experiencing ¡Viva Tequila! It turns out that the Monarch butterflies migrate from Mexico along with tequila (not actually together, of course), so guests will be greeted with a shot of tequila in the Butterfly Pavilion. From there, wander along the placid beauty of Mission Creek and enjoy Don Julio tequila and special appetizers, including giant prawns with tequila-infused cocktail sauce. Don’t know the difference between blanco, reposado, and a±ejo? Here’s the way to teach your taste buds which is which. This not surprisingly adult-only event is even cheaper ($25 versus $35) if you buy in advance, so log on to sbnature.org/tickets or call Nicole at 682-4711 x110. Plus it might sell out, and that will leave you crying into your Corona somewhere far less beautiful than the SBMNH grounds.
