Riley, the Search-and-Rescue Dog

S.B. Fire Department Gets a New Crewmember

Tue Nov 17, 2009 | 06:00am

A new crewmember named Riley has joined Santa Barbara firefighters. Unlike his two-legged coworkers, Riley has four paws and a tail. He is a search-and-rescue dog. The yellow lab was trained in Ojai at the Search Dog Foundation and joined the S.B. Fire Department in October. In celebration of his arrival, a party for the public and their canines is being held Sunday, November 22, from noon-2 p.m., at Elings Park’s Capello picnic site/baseball fields.

In addition to meeting Riley, there will be a holiday-wear dog costume contest, a Best Tricks event, a presentation by the S.B. Flyers dog agility group, and a complimentary Thanksgiving feast biscuit buffet for pooches. Dogs must be leashed. Parking is limited. For more info, visit sbfirefightersalliance.org.
