In celebration of GaySantaBarbara.org becoming the official Web site of the Gay Santa Barbara Foundation, the “bent rainbow flag”-designed to be reminiscent of the Chromatic Gate rainbow sculpture on Cabrillo Boulevard-will fly on State Street from 1/8-1/15.

Beginning 1/11, the intersection of Haley and De la Vina streets will be pretty much off limits to motorists for an entire year, pending reconstruction of the 95-year-old bridge spanning Mission Creek. Other nearby De la Vina Street intersections will be likewise affected. The bridge reconstruction, budgeted at $12 million, is needed to meet new seismic safety requirements and will provide a wider berth for the intermittent creek, allowing the endangered steelhead trout to hopefully reclaim an area where it once thrived. For those seeking more info-or to voice concerns-City Hall has provided a telephone hotline at 705-7610.
