It looks like the Board of Supervisors is going to have to rescind its controversial approval of the house planned for the top of Farren Road at the eastern most gate of the Gaviota Coast. The 15,000-square-foot glass and steel Ballantyne residence, complete with a large dirt wall to obscure it from view, was approved in 2008 and subsequently appealed by the Gaviota Coast Conservancy for, amongst other things, not having followed proper Environmental Review protocols. The appeal has been upheld all the way to the California Supreme Court—the latest ruling coming down last week—and now the Ballantynes are out of options. According to conservancy attorney Marc Chytilo, the supes must now vacate their prior approval and subject the project to a full environmental review.
