A Mesa home sustained moderate damage in a fire that began at 1 a.m. this morning, May 10. According to a Santa Barbara City Fire Department spokesperson, initial responders — including three fire engines, a truck, and accompanying Battalion Chief — arrived to find flames licking the exterior of the two-story home. Officials believe that the fire may have initially started in a nearby shed and, fanned by strong winds, spread to the exterior wood siding and deck of the home.

Although the outside of the home was damaged, firefighters were able to prevent it from spreading inside. The inside did sustain some smoke damage, said officials. No one was injured in the blaze and its cause is still under investigation.
