Supes Delay Decision on Coastal Commission Recommendations

Santa Barbara supervisors delayed making a decision once again this week on what exactly their stance is in regard to the California Coastal Commission’s staff recommendations to the county’s ongoing Land Use Development Code updates. Viewed by some as a power grab on the part of the Coastal Commission to usurp local authority and undermine agriculture, while considered by many others to be a constructive effort to make sure county land use policies are in full compliance with the spirit and law of the Coastal Act, the staff suggestions need to be addressed before the commission’s next meeting on 8/11 and 8/12 when it is scheduled to vote on the county’s proposed code updates. Hoping to find a compromise, the supes will once again revisit the debate early next month.
