Marborg Hauls Schools’ Trash For Free

MarBorg Industries was saluted for its generosity this week in the form of a sign placed at San Marcos High School. Last spring the company was awarded a one-year $80,000 contract for waste hauling and recycling services at San Marcos High, Goleta Valley Junior High, and Dos Pueblo High schools, but, because of the Santa Barbara School District’s dismal budget situation, company president Mario Borgatello decided to do the job for free. A few years ago, MarBorg succeeded in wresting half the City of Santa Barbara’s trash contract away from BFI, which had held the contract exclusively since the late 1970s. MarBorg has been trying to expand its hauling franchise since, hoping to become the city’s sole trash service.
