If you’re in need of deficiently brainy, but epically funny lifestyle rap that threatens to explode into an impromptu dance party, take a couple Pigeon John tracks and call your hip-hop doc in the morning. The Northridge-based, Omaha-born, mixed-race skateboarding rapper’s second album on the Quannum Projects label is much like his last—a bouncy, sing-songy mix of personal episodes and hilarious hooks—but he’s employed the producing, keyboard tactics of General Elektriks Hervé Salters to keep things fresh and smooth things out. Pigeon John brings a live showcase of his funnyman act to Velvet Jones (423 State St.) on Thursday, September 30, at 8 p.m. Call 965-8676 or visit velvet-jones.com for tix.
