After a six-month-long investigation, Santa Barbara Sheriff’s narcotics detectives arrested a man and a woman last week who have been linked to heroin distribution and multiple vehicle burglaries in the Montecito, Carpinteria, and Santa Barbara areas.
During the arrests, suspects Preston Scott and Karena Straight were apprehended on outstanding warrants, and narcotics detectives recovered 12 bindles of suspected heroin prepackaged for sales.
Both suspects have also been linked to more than a dozen vehicle robberies. Detectives were able to retrieve a large amount of stolen property, including iPods, cellular phones, cameras, watches, GPS devices, wallets, credit cards, garage door openers, and a rare government-grade breathing apparatus valued at over $7,000.
Both Scott and Straight had outstanding warrants for failing to appear at Santa Barbara County Superior Court for other cases. They were booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail with bails each set at $30,000.
A third subject was arrested with Straight, John Sutton of Santa Barbara, on charges of possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail is set at $10,000.
