Raimundo Montes De Oca, who since October 2010 has served as the county’s interim public defender after Greg Paraskou retired, has been appointed to the position permanently. Montes De Oca, a native of Carpinteria, has decades of experience not only as an attorney but also in this county. He attended UCSB as an undergrad, and after a stint in Arizona, came back to work for the county in 1979.
