People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has challenged the owners of Neverland Ranch—once the exclusive domain of reclusive pop star Michael Jackson—to make the Santa Ynez property a high-profile refuge for animals in need of rescue rather than recreate it as a menagerie for exotic animals bought for show. PETA sent a public letter to Jackson’s kids, Prince Michael and Paris Jackson, after hearing they were thinking about converting the 2,800 estate into a community park and center for animals. PETA suggested that the Jackson heirs consider making it a “wildlife sanctuary,” rather than a zoo “where people are invited to gawk at imprisoned animals in the name of profit.”
