Pharmacy Technician Arrested for Stealing, Selling Pills

Allegedly Made Money on Street Slinging OxyContin

Santa Barbara Sheriff’s detectives arrested a pharmacy technician Wednesday for allegedly stealing prescription pills from his work and then selling them on the street.

An employee of L.M. Caldwell Pharmacist, located in the 1500 block of State Street, David Lopez-Mejia was taken into custody at his Via Lucero Drive home following a six-month-long investigation. Lopez-Mejia, said Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Drew Sugars, had “agreed to meet with an undercover detective and sold the detective OxyContin pills on numerous occasions.”

Lopez-Mejia, 24, was booked in County Jail on three charges of sales of a controlled substance. He’s currently on a no bail immigration hold.
