A 22-year-old Santa Barbara man was killed on 7/2 as he ran across the northbound lanes of Highway 101 near the Las Positas on-ramp. According to a CHP spokesperson, Ricardo Madrigal was attending an event at the Earl Warren Showgrounds when he got into a fight in the bathroom, which spilled into the parking lot. Madrigal took off on foot when the fight was over at around 10:15 p.m., crossing Calle Real and walking onto the highway. As he tried to make his way across the lanes, he was struck by several cars. The accident caused a three-car pileup and all northbound lanes in the area were closed for nearly two hours. None of the drivers were seriously hurt, and the incident remains under investigation.
